Applying for a Testlink

From Afterxwiki

To apply for a test-link, download the testlink application form from the AfterX website. Instructions are enclosed on the form on how to complete it and who to send it to.

The form is available online at:

http://www.afterx.net/serverlinkapp

Do fill it as much relevant information as you can - show that you are genuinely interested in the network and not just wanting to link a server for the sake of linking. We are interested in people (including your staff, if any) are willing to stick around and are of an easy-going nature.

Don't Apply...
If you are on a DSL line.
If you barely know how to run a server and try to cover up (unless you have at least a competant co-admin)
If you run 6000 other processes on an underpowered box
If your account is on a public shell server (exceptions may apply if your application is exceptional)
If you and your staff are going to be absent/busy a lot of the time
If you and your staff have no interest in interacting with us or our users

If none of the above applies to you, and you believe you can contribute something to AfterX (skills, users, chat, or whatever it may be) - then we will look forward to your application form, and Net-Com will aim to vote on the matter within a week of receiving it. A new test link requires a majority approval of Net-Com. Do have your IRCd up and running so we can check it out during the voting process.

What to expect during a testlink:

You will receive an email saying you have managed to secure a testlink on AfterX. After this, you will be given AfterX's testlink configuaration files which will enable you to be connected to one of our hub servers, and will display some AfterX standard information such as the Rules file. These should not be edited unless told to do so by the person giving you the files. We do not care how you present your MOTD, if any, as long it is not contrary to the spirit of AfterX or in breach of the AfterX Charter (eg, no racism).

The Admin of the testlink server will be a Global with no services access. The rest of your staff, including the Co-Admin, will all be Local Opers. You all need to pass the AfterX test - ideally in the two-week testlinking period to help us evaluate the suitability of your server on our network.

Once the two-week period is up, Net-Com will then vote to whether approve your server for permlink, extend the testlink or decline your server and will let you know via email. The voting period is up to one week or it may be short as a couple of hours - long or short is not an indication of whether the outcome is positive or negative - it merely means some of the voting staff aren't around yet to vote. If you fail, you will be emailed saying so and your server will be delinked with or without your acknowledgement.

If successful for a permlink, all the staff will be given access to other parts of the AfterX forums at http://forums.afterx.net/ suitable for their level. Global operator status (and any additional status for Admins/Co-Admins if deemed appropriate) will be given after the permlink is approved and has passed the AfterX test. If anyone have not passed the test, the person remains a local. The voting admin or co-admin cannot vote for 30 days since permlink on Net-Com unless is already an AfterX experienced staff. Remember, one vote per server.

Still want to do it? - fill out this form in full (incomplete ones will be rejected): http://www.afterx.net/?section=network&page=serverlink
